Orwell blackwhite doublethink politics war propaganda lies PR iraq bush immigration theocracy
When tformer Bush press secretary Scott McClellan, published a tell all book about the Bush administration my first reaction was, "So what?" It seems like everyone that leaves that den of inequity and lies publishes a book distancing themselves from what will surely be remembered as the worst administration in US history. It doesn't make-up for the fact that these people were willing participants in it.
The administration lied to take us to war? They have a hard time admitting failure? Rove misled people about the Valarie Plame incident? Cheney was the key player behind the scenes driving many policies? The sun rises in the east? Hot coffee may burn your tongue? These are not revelations, they are simply restatements of what we already know, and McClellan is hardly giving us a confession.
But then this little excerpt came to light and it was just too good to pas-up:
"'The media won't let go of these ridiculous cocaine rumors,' I heard Bush say. 'You know, the truth is I honestly don't remember whether I tried it or not. We had some pretty wild parties back in the day, and I just don't remember.'"
"I remember thinking to myself, How can that be?" McClellan wrote. "How can someone simply not remember whether or not they used an illegal substance like cocaine? It didn't make a lot of sense."
Bush, according to McClellan, "isn't the kind of person to flat-out lie."
So there you have it, Bush actually isn't just "flat-out" lying. He is actually able to convince himself that the lie is the truth. That my friends in Orwellian terms is blackwhite. It is the pathological protection of someone who has the power to insulate themselves from any criticism. It is a great indication that our president, and those around him, are absolutely insane.
